Waking Up 5 lbs Heavier
Consistency is more important than perfection. I repeat consistency is more important than perfection.
This Monday morning I woke up 5 lbs heavier. That is right, you read that correctly, this is not a typo. Yup, I am human and I am not perfect. The picture you see is of my favorite vegan burger in NYC from Marty’s V Burger. This is the original world famous burger and it is delicious. I enjoyed every bite of it last Sunday along with some other things.
Presently during this phase of my fitness journey I am in maintenance meaning that I am not in a caloric deficit. I am not losing weight and I am maintaining my weight (I have been doing this for a little over a year now). Next phase of my fitness journey, I will be working towards a caloric surplus with the goal of building muscle.
When I woke up on Monday. I did not feel guilty. I did not feel that I had to cut down my calorie intake for the day. It was my rest day and I did not feel like I had to work out. So what did I feel? I felt like it was a regular day and I just wanted to stick to my routine.
Those 5 pounds were a combination of things such as I ate more than I usually do and I ate more sodium than usual.
So this is what I did this week: I stuck to my routine. I worked out on Tuesday (1 hour) and Thursday (1 hour). l will work out today (1 hour). I did not decrease my calories. I ate my standard intake of 2100-2200 calories a day. I made sure to walk and get my 10k steps a day like I normally do. And guess what happened? Those 5 pounds came off. This morning I am the same weight that I was last Sunday. See my stats down below.
I share this because I am just a regular gal who is not a “influencer” I am simply someone who believes in the process of wanting to be your best self everyday.
In the past, would I have cut down my calories? beat myself up? do more cardio? obsess over the scale? Yeah truthfully yes. And I hated that I would do that. This version of myself has grown a lot. My goal of challenging myself for 2019 shall continue. I am proud of how I have evolved.
Carter Good has two posts on Instagram that really drive this point home (1) Yesterday you didn’t binge (2) Did you gain 2-3 lbs overnight?
I hope that sharing my personal experience can aide in your own personal journeys as you continue to work on your own personal fitness and nutrition goals.
If you took the time to read this blog. I thank you. Till next time.
xoxoxo,
Jess
